posted 18 Sept 2026Postdoctoral Fellow in Sensorimotor and Rhythm Research with AI-Assisted AutomationXiangbin Teng · The Chinese University of Hong Kong · Hong KongThe SMRT Lab, in the Department of Psychology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate sensorimotor coordination and the perception and production of rhythm, while developing AI-assisted workflows for scientific research.
Our research asks how the brain detects temporal patterns, anticipates upcoming events, and coordinates perception and action, particularly in speech and music. We combine behavioural experiments, neuroscience methods, and computational modelling to understand these processes. Learn more about our research directions.
This position brings together experimental and computational research with the practical development of AI-assisted research tools.
The fellow will contribute to:
- Sensorimotor and rhythm research: developing hypotheses and designing experiments on timing, rhythmic behaviour, and the relationship between sensory information and action.
- Data analysis and computational modelling: analysing behavioural and neural data and building models that connect experimental findings to explanations of perception and behaviour.
- Research automation: developing and evaluating workflows that use AI to support literature synthesis, hypothesis generation, experimental design, code development, analysis, and model testing.
- Reproducible research: building documented workflows with appropriate validation and quality checks, so that AI-assisted outputs can be examined and reproduced.
We are looking for applicants with:
- A PhD in neuroscience, psychology, computer science, cognitive science, engineering, or a related field.
- Strong programming and quantitative skills, with experience in scientific computing, statistical analysis, or computational modelling.
- An interest in sensorimotor coordination, rhythm, and the links between brain and behaviour.
- Enthusiasm for combining experimental research with AI-assisted automation.
Experience with behavioural experiments, neural data analysis, machine learning, or AI research tools would be particularly relevant.
How to apply
Email XiangbinTeng@cuhk.edu.hk with your CV and a brief statement of research interests, describing your relevant experience and how it connects to the position. You may also include links to publications, code repositories, or other research projects, together with your anticipated availability.

posted 17 Sept 2026PhD and Postdoc in NeuroAI and Computational NeurolinguisticsJixing Li · The Hong Kong Polytechnic University · Hong KongThe Languages, Machines and Brains Lab, led by Dr. Jixing Li, is seeking motivated PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to join our research at the intersection of neuroimaging, computational modeling, and language. The lab will move to the Division of AI in Humanities at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in late December 2026, with opportunities starting in 2027.
Our research combines naturalistic language paradigms, large language models, and human neuroscience to investigate the computational foundations of language. We work with complementary brain-recording methods, including fMRI, MEG, EEG, and intracranial recordings.
Research directions include:
- Understanding how linguistic representations emerge in artificial neural networks and relate to human brain activity.
- Modeling language comprehension and production during naturalistic listening, reading, and conversation.
- Investigating language impairment and recovery in aphasia through computational models and neuroimaging.
Who we are looking for
Applicants must have a strong computational background, with solid programming skills and experience in machine learning, computational modeling, or quantitative data analysis. Relevant backgrounds include computer science, engineering, computational neuroscience, cognitive science, linguistics, and related fields.
PhD applicants should demonstrate research potential and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary work. Postdoctoral applicants should hold, or be nearing completion of, a relevant PhD and demonstrate the ability to develop and lead research projects.
How to express interest
Please contact Dr. Jixing Li at jixing.us@gmail.com with:
- Your CV.
- A brief description of your research interests, relevant computational experience, and fit with the lab.
- Links to publications, research projects, or code repositories, if available.
- Your preferred position and anticipated start date.
Join us in exploring the connections between languages, machines, and brains!
