Join as a lab

Labs across the Greater Bay Area are invited to establish a shared seminar and collaboration network. Membership is by lab, there are no fees, and the labs that join now shape the rules.

Submit your labFollow the seminars

The form needs a free GitHub account. If that is a problem, ask any member PI to submit for you; an email route will appear here once the network's address is set up.

Who

Member lab
A PI-led group at an institution in the Greater Bay Area. Listed, hosts seminars in turn, invites speakers on behalf of all.
Affiliate lab
A lab elsewhere that takes part regularly. Listed with a badge.
Students, postdocs, research staff and other participants
No application. Follow the seminars. The announcement list, which carries the meeting links, is passed on by any member PI.

What is expected of a member lab

Hosting
One seminar in turn. How often a turn comes round depends on how many labs are listed. Swap with another lab if the date does not work; tell the coordinators.
Sharing
Pass on tutorials, positions and speakers worth inviting. The forms are below.
Confidential work
No lab is expected to share unpublished data, research ideas, funding or other confidential material.
Code of conduct
Applies to every network activity, coordinators included.

Affiliate labs are not in the hosting rotation; participants who are not in a listed lab have no obligations beyond the code of conduct. The full text is in the member lab guidelines.

How

  1. Open the lab form.
  2. Name, institution, city, up to eight keywords, two sentences on the lab. A photo is optional; initials are shown otherwise.
  3. Give consent. The entry's text is published under CC BY 4.0. A photo, if given, is displayed with your permission only and is not licensed for reuse.
  4. A coordinator reviews the entry, usually within days, and the lab appears on the roster.

Also

Nominate a speaker
Anyone may. Nominations are read by the coordinators and never published on the site; the form is a public GitHub issue, so write only what the nominee could read.
Propose an event
Seminars, workshops, summer schools. See the speaker kit for the format.
Share a tutorial
Notebooks, courses, recordings. The material stays where you host it.
Post a position
PhD, postdoc, RA, faculty. Listings expire on their deadline.

To change or remove an entry, write to the coordinators or edit its file by pull request. The rules are in the charter, a draft for ratification by the founding labs, the member lab guidelines, the code of conduct and the privacy statement.
