About
We connect labs across the Greater Bay Area that study the brain with computational and cognitive methods. Together we run a joint seminar series, keep a public roster of participating labs, share teaching material, and pool the audience that no single department has on its own, so that any member can invite a speaker on behalf of all.
A network, not a society: no legal entity, no fees, no president. What exists is an agreement among labs to host seminars together, keep a public roster, share teaching material, and let any member invite a speaker on behalf of all. Should a legal form ever be needed, the decision will be taken openly and recorded in the charter.
Why
The field in the Greater Bay Area is spread across many campuses, a few labs each. No single department has the audience to justify inviting the speakers its members want to hear, and no existing society spans the border between Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong. Pooling audiences and invitations solves both at once.
Language
English is the default working language, so that researchers across institutions can take part in the same events. Names may appear in Chinese and English, and training material may be contributed in either language when clearly labelled.
How it runs
Proposed arrangements, subject to confirmation by the member labs. The charter is a draft for their ratification.
- Seminars
- Proposed: Alternate Thursdays, 16:00–17:00 Hong Kong Time (UTC+8), subject to confirmation by the member labs. Online on Zoom, Tencent Meeting (VooV) as fallback.
- Hosts
- Each seminar is hosted by one member lab in turn: it invites, chairs and circulates the link.
- Coordinators
- A small group, one per institution where possible, on rotating terms. They keep the calendar, review submissions and hold the repository.
- Tiers
- Member labs are in the region; affiliates take part from elsewhere. Both reviewed before listing.
- Delisting
- On request, or when a PI leaves the region. The roster is refreshed annually.
- In the open
- Roster, calendar, charter and this site are files in a public repository. Changes are pull requests.
